When I was a child, I was always looking for magic in the world around me. Now I make my own. When I put my pen to paper, I create something from nothing. I bring my surreal, imagined worlds to life - this is one magic. As an artist and illustrator, I’ve learned to see another kind of magic all around me, in the details of nature and people. My work is continually inspired by the great diversity of our planet, by the graceful and bizarre creatures and plants that inhabit it, by the endless depths of the ocean waves, the enchantment of the forests, the mysteries of the stars in the sky. With just a little bit of ink I can tell stories about all of these things, and I hope that they will make you pause and wonder, remind you of a special person or moment, let you escape into an impossible world, or awaken your curiosity.

I always thought I would tell these stories with words, and I was obsessed with writing from a young age. But one day I started doodling with my favourite pen instead of writing, and I wasn’t able to stop. As my skills improved, I started seeing my stories come to life on the page in a way they never did with writing. I love creating these little doorways into stories the viewer can peer into.

I create art traditionally with pen and ink, as well as digitally on my iPad, often combining the two. I love collaborating with people to bring their vision to life. You can see some of the amazing projects I’ve been lucky enough to be a part of in my Portfolio page. If you have a project in mind that you’d like to work on together, send me a message at ella@ecmazurart.com and let’s make some magic!
